The family set out for St. Ignace that evening, ahead of the weekend at Mackinac Island. We crossed the Mackinac Bridge with the sun going down, the towers rising up out of the straits, following the cars ahead of us across.

The best souvenir from Mackinac is always the fudge. I am partial to Ryba's peanut butter variety.
The day took in St. Ignace, Mackinac Island and Butterfly House. We took the ferry over, sharing popsicles on the ride, then walked the island by horse and carriage since no cars are allowed there. It was Lilac Festival weekend, and the blooms were out all over town.
We spent a while at Wings of Mackinac, watching blue morphos and owl butterflies up close, then walked out to the Nicolet Watch Tower and Arch Rock before the family drove home from Mackinac Island.
