ASL Interpreters
Our daughter Lisa is deaf. These are the people who have signed for her on our Disney cruises: the shows, the safety drills, the deck parties, Pirate Night and plenty of quieter moments in between, so Lisa can follow along with everyone else. This page is our thank you to each of them.
How it started
It all started on our 7-Night Southern Caribbean Cruise from San Juan in February 2016, our sixth Disney cruise, when Lisa was 10 years old. On February 6th we were in port at Saint Kitts and Nevis, riding the bus to the first stop of our Port Adventure, Fairview Great House in Basseterre, when we noticed a group at the back of the bus signing to each other. Seeing other deaf travelers on a Disney vacation was novel to us. Marco's interpreters saw us watching and told us that Disney Cruise Line would provide ASL interpreters for Lisa too, and taught us a lot about requesting accessibility services for her. It was all new to us; we didn't know what we didn't know. Ever since that fortuitous meeting on that port adventure in Basseterre, Saint Kitts and Nevis, we have been friends with Marco, and with the interpreters.
On our 14-Night Halloween on the High Seas Panama Canal Cruise from San Diego in October 2018, we really got to know "our" interpreters, Kara and Meagan. Ever since, the interpreters have been the most important part of our cruises. They are the MVPs who make all of the magic happen for us. I cannot express how important their services are, and even more, the love, kindness and consideration they show Lisa. They always go so far above and beyond what is expected to make Lisa's adventure truly magical. We love them so much.
