Loews Sapphire Falls Resort, Animal Kingdom
I flew from Kalamazoo to Orlando by way of Chicago O'Hare, landing in the afternoon. From there I drove out to Lake Buena Vista and checked into the Loews Sapphire Falls Resort. The lobby ceiling was hung with a row of painted paddles as light fixtures. Later that evening I walked down to look at the resort pool before a week of meetings started.
After a day of meetings, I drove down to Disney's Animal Kingdom for the evening. I stood under the park's entrance sign and walked past the Tree of Life on the way in. Pandora, the World of Avatar, was the main draw: its floating mountains lit up as the sky went dark, and the plants along its walking trail glowed blue and purple after sunset. I stopped for a dessert and a plated dinner, and went through the queue for Avatar Flight of Passage, where a screen matched me to an avatar. I stayed in the park past nine before heading back to the resort for the night.
I flew from Orlando to Kalamazoo by way of Detroit. Boarding started in the afternoon, and by the time we landed in Detroit for the connection it was early evening. I was back near Coloma late that night, closing out the week.
