A weekend in the capital during the North Anna outage: the White House on the Friday evening, then the National Mall, the Washington Monument and the Jefferson Memorial.
I took a sightseeing bus tour around the National Mall Friday afternoon, past the Washington Monument, the WWII Memorial and its reflecting pool, the Lincoln Memorial, and the Jefferson Memorial across the water.
In the evening I walked over to the White House and stood at the fence with the South Lawn in view before heading back.
Saturday I walked the National Mall, past the Capitol end and back with the Washington Monument behind me. I spent the early afternoon in the Smithsonian's Museum of Natural History, under the elephant in the rotunda, past a case of gems, and through the geology hall, where a Michigan copper sheet and a banded iron formation from Marquette County were on display.
Later in the afternoon I walked over to the Air and Space Museum and through its main hangar, full of aircraft hanging overhead.
